Nationaal Monument Watersnood 1953
The National Monument Flood of 1953 consists of four Phoenix caissons that were recognized as a monument 50 years after the disaster. The surrounding area is also part of the National Monument due to the direct consequences of the flood. The monument was designed by artist Gust Romijn and symbolizes the devastating power of water with a high stone column and the text "the water, the storm, the silence". The museum displays the caissons and the surrounding area, including creeks, nature reserves, and the new sea dike.
