The Scaffold

The artwork 'Steiger', created by Abelen Architecture, has been placed in the outdoor area of the Watersnoodmuseum, a special place where the scars of the Disaster are still clearly visible in the landscape. Anyone brave enough to climb the Scaffold and settle on the raised seat will be rewarded with a symbolic view. On one side, the caissons, used to seal the dyke holes after the Disaster, reveal the tragic history that took place here. On the other side is The Fifth Caisson, a source of knowledge and awareness about sea level rise and water management.

In the middle, straight ahead, the dike looms as a boundary between safety and threat, between past and future. Scaffold invites you to connect, understand and, above all, take action against tomorrow's threat.
