Straô Ellemeet

Between February and March, the Straô riding tradition takes place in six villages on the island of Schouwen: Burgh-Haamstede, Ellemeet, Scharendijke, Serooskerke, Renesse, and Noordwelle. The highlight of Straô is washing the horses' hooves in the sea, with the riders remaining seated on their horses during the process. Riders and horses gather in the morning at a fixed starting point and head to the beach around midday. Each village has its own schedule.

Program:

  • 11:15 AM: Judging at the Dorpsplein
  • 12:00 PM: Start of the procession
  • 12:15/12:30 PM: Horses and riders at Beachclub Perry's
Other viewing spots: Kijkduin Renesse, the large parking area at Laône, and near the church in Renesse
  • 4:30 PM: Return of Straô riders accompanied by music
  • 5:00 PM: Award ceremony at the Dorpsplein
  • 6:00 PM: Party in 't Durps'uus with live music
