De Meeuwenduinen
At the Meeuwenduinen, you will find a unique natural experience, such as young bare dunes, plains covered in moss and dune grasslands, and various plant species. In addition, this area is home to rabbits and birds, including breeding lesser black-backed gulls and herring gulls. The sound of these birds is particularly striking and overwhelming.
To protect the valuable dunes, grazing by large wild animals such as roe deer, fallow deer, and Shetland ponies is important. These animals keep the area open and ensure that the present rabbits do not eat everything.
Take a beautiful 12 km walk through the Meeuwenduinen and enjoy the breathtaking landscape. This trail is only accessible outside the breeding season (between March 15th and July 15th). The starting point is the Excursieschuur Westerschouwen, where you can also get more information about other routes.
